How to Relieve Hip Pain

A repetitive motion and a fair amount of wear and tear can be tolerated by our hip joint. The ball-and-socket joint works together in such a manner that fluid movement is possible. A cushion of cartilage protects the hip bone from rubbing when it moves in its socket when you use the hip when for example, you go for a run. The hip joint isn’t indestructible, despite its durability. The cartilage can wear down or be weakened as a result of age and use. Hip muscles and tendons may become overworked. Hip bones can snap as a result of a fall or other injury. Hip pain may be caused by any of these conditions. If your hips are bothering you, here’s a rundown on how to relieve it. See a review of Mike Westerdal’s Unlock Your Hip Flexors program.

REST

Nothing beats a good old rest. If you have hip flexor strain, you can rest the affected muscles. To stop overstretching the muscle, one thing you should do is vary your daily tasks. You might, for example, swim instead of riding a bicycle.

EXERCISES

Gentle stretching exercises will help relieve hip flexor muscle pain and lower the risk of injury in the future. Applying damp heat and warming up the muscles with a gentle stroll for about three minutes before stretching will help to reduce the chance of hip flexor strain.

MASSAGE

You can also try massaging the part where you feel pain the most. Massage helps relieve tight hips as it stretches the tissues that foam rollers cannot reach. Because it relaxes the muscles through heat generation and circulation, it increases blood flow to the tissues and can also release endorphins which help in reducing the pain.

HOME REMEDY

The majority of hip flexor strains can be treated at home without the use of prescription drugs or more invasive procedures. A few home remedies that can help ease hip flexor pressure pain is applying cold compress on the affected or painful area for at least 10 to 15 minutes. After about 72 hours, alternate it application with hot compress after the initial injury to reduce muscle tightness. If the pain is unbearable, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever like Tylenol. Just take precaution and shouldn’t continue taking medicines longer than 10 days. If the pain insists, it’s time to consult a doctor.

SEVERER CASES

Your doctor may recommend seeing a physical therapist if your hip flexor strain is serious enough to cause a major muscle tear. Surgery to patch the ruptured muscle may be recommended in some cases. This is, though, a very unlikely occurrence.

Depending on the cause of the pain, different pain relief can be applied and performed but nothing beats knowing the exact source of your hip pain and receiving the right treatment as suggested by an expert.
